I have been fitting hearing aids since 2005. This journey has been very fulfilling. The technology in these tiny hearing aids is phenomenal. It is such a great feeling when a person’s face lights up when all of a sudden, they can hear so much better! Doing the mobile practice has opened up a new door in that fitting hearing aids in the patient’s residence is so much better than in a hearing aid store. Real life room acoustics, tvs, spouses and other family members in that environment make for a preferred setting for programming the hearing aids.
Using my 3-D scanner has been such a blessing to me. When customers want custom hearing aids or ear molds, I no longer have to use the old method of putting a substance inside the ear in order to get an impression. Now it is done on the computer using 3 different lasers in one piece of equipment. It is amazing, and it always interests me how people seem to enjoy seeing the picture of their ear canal and outer ear being drawn on the computer screen. I just send in the digital file to the manufacturer, and the whole process is lightyears better than before.
